Frequently Asked Questions
What is an open competition?
An open competition is an event that accepts entries from archers of all ages and clubs, regardless of affiliation. These are typically hosted by county associations, clubs, or tournament organisers, and the entry criteria are published on their websites or event flyers.
How do I know which round is age- and gender-appropriate?
Refer to Section 308 (“Recognised Rounds”) in the Archery GB Rules of Shooting. It contains a breakdown of eligible rounds by age group (Cub, Junior, Senior, Veteran) and gender. If you’re unsure, ask your coach or contact DNAA for support.
What counts as an official result?
Your results must be:
- Published by the event organiser (online listing, PDF, or printed sheet)
- Clearly showing your name, bow type, round shot, and score
- Dated and signed or stamped if on paper
A clear digital photo or screenshot is acceptable, provided all details are legible. If in doubt, submit it early—we’ll confirm before processing.
Can I claim multiple segments at once?
Yes. If your score qualifies across multiple thresholds, you’re welcome to claim all matching segments from a single event—even the full badge if eligible.
Do I lose segments when I change age category?
No. Once earned, segments are retained. Thresholds remain valid even if your age group changes later.
How do Purple bar scores compare to Archery GB Rose Awards?
The Purple segment roughly corresponds to the White Rose Award level. Achieving it suggests you’re on track for WA Star awards or progressing toward higher national distinctions.
Where can I get the Claim Form?
You can download it here or request a copy directly by emailing secretary@dnaa.co.uk.
How long does it take to receive segments after claiming?
Once your results are verified and payment (£6.50 per segment) is received, segments are typically posted within two weeks. We’ll send a confirmation email when they’re dispatched.
What if I’m new and unsure about procedures?
We understand—this scheme is designed to support your growth. Ask your coach, club contact, or email secretary@dnaa.co.uk. We’ll guide you through claiming, rounds, or results—we want your first application to be smooth and confidence-building.
