Lambton Worm Award

Overview

The DNAA County Progression Award is a single badge scheme designed to recognise and reward members’ improvement and competition scores — whether it’s your first shoot or your fifth season. Built to last, the badge grows with the archer: coloured segments are awarded based on score thresholds tied to Archery GB official rounds, with progression aligned to nationally recognised standards.

Rather than age‑specific badges or separate awards per discipline, the scheme uses a unified system. Scores reflect ability, not age group (though age‑appropriate rounds are required), encouraging all archers to challenge themselves and track personal growth across seasons. Thresholds were chosen to remain valid even as official age categories change — keeping administration simple and progression fair.

Whether you’re shooting recurve, compound, barebow, or longbow, this is a badge to take pride in. With the Lambton Worm as its visual inspiration, each segment represents not just points on a scoresheet, but milestones in your archery story.

History
The scheme was developed under the leadership of Former County Secretary Sharon Tideswell, with the goal of supporting long‑term improvement and recognising achievement in competition. It was designed to be inclusive, sustainable, and symbolic of the County’s ethos: a single badge awarded across age groups, disciplines, and experience levels.
Drawing inspiration from the Lambton Worm — a regional legend — the badge features six coloured segments, each matching the Archery GB Rose Award palette and linked to score thresholds in AGB‑recognised rounds. These mark meaningful milestones in an archer’s development, from first events to national benchmarks.

The final badge design received voluntary input from a professional graphic designer, was approved by the County Committee, and produced in bulk for launch from the 2019 season onward. It stands as a forward‑looking symbol of DNAA’s commitment to celebrating growth and fostering a vibrant archery community.

How It Works

The County Progression Award is earned in stages. Archers begin by achieving the qualifying score for the White segment in a recognised open competition. This unlocks the base badge, featuring the head of the Lambton Worm and the first colour bar.

As higher scores are achieved in future events, additional coloured segments are awarded in order:
Black → Blue → Red → Gold → Purple
These build the worm’s body, marking clear milestones in your competitive progression. Each segment corresponds to a score threshold in an Archery GB–recognised round, as listed on most event entry forms. Scores must:
  • Be shot in open competitions that accept entries from Archery GB members of all ages and clubs
  • Be officially published by the organiser
  • Match your age and gender category (including distinction between WA and AGB formats — e.g. Bristol rounds are not valid for seniors unless officially listed)
You can claim more than one segment at once — if your score meets multiple thresholds, you may skip ahead. Some archers may unlock several, or even the full badge, from a single event.

To Claim Your Segments
  1. Download and complete the Claim Form
  2. Attach your official competition results sheet (PDF, photo, or screenshot — anything clear and legible)
    • If on paper, ensure it carries the organiser’s verification (e.g. signature or stamp, if used)
  3. Email both to secretary@dnaa.co.uk for verification

After approval:
  • You’ll be asked to pay £6.50 for the segment(s)
  • Your new bar(s) will be posted to you, ready to attach to your badge
There’s no expiry — whether you’re steadily building across a season or making a leap from one big event, your progress is recognised and rewarded. Segments not yet earned will be held for the archer, at no additional cost, until they are achieved.
