Taking place on Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 November (start time on Sunday updated)
2023 has been a good year for DNAA members at flight. This year has seen 3 flight competitions – Cumbria, NCAS & Nationals and as the results were called the medals just kept piling up for DNAA. More than 30 gold medals were won!
DNAA archers broke 1 National, 3 Regional and 21 County Records.
Special congratulations go to Paula Gardner of Riverside who set a new National record for English Longbow not exceeding #35 with a distance of 278Yd 0ft 9in. She also took the trophy for Ladies best distance with a British made bow.

It’s getting dark and we’re going indoors, Boo!
Lets face it the summer was either too hot or too wet or both at the same time (Norton Shoot 10th September)
So lets look forward to the indoors and get some practise in, save your score, and send a Castle League score in.
All the details are on the PDF below.

Thank you for representing DNAA

The day started off sunny and hot, but the late afternoon brought apocalyptic thunder, lightning and monsoons. The shoot was accordingly abandoned half way through, given the risk of drowning / being struck by lightning. But as one complete clout had been shot awards were given.
Wonder what the 50th will bring??

APPEAL
At the moment there is a push to raise the profile of some of the less well known forms of archery, & part of this is to run workshops & have-a-gos in various locations. One of the essentials we need to do this is a good supply of Flu Flu arrows, which have to be specially manufactured/adapted. The plan over the winter months is to produce these in preparation for workshops to be run in the spring. At the moment Ann Conifey has the only large batch of these available, so we are hoping that archers will respond to our appeal for a supply of second hand arrows.
They do not need to be in sets at all, nor do the fletches need to be in good condition (as they will be stripped off) Even the odd point missing which needs to be replaced is ok. Using complete arrows saves so much time when trying to build up a substantial quantity, particularly when we have a target (in due course) of well over 100 flu flus being available.
Most archers end up with a stock of ‘left overs’, when sets have been damaged over the years, which serve little purpose & just languish in storage.
Both wooden & metal arrows are used, although with regard to metal, thicker shafts are better, as thin ‘knitting needle’ shafts are much harder to ‘spiralley’ fletch sucessfully.
So archers, if you have any arrows that would fit the bill & that you are willing to donate could you dig them out & do your best to get them to Ann Conifey or Ian Norwood over the coming weeks. Even just one or two are appreciated – they are all useful.
Obviously postage is not really an option because of cost but maybe passing them ‘down the line’ at clubs, shoots or by friends could be utilised.
Thank you

Accompanied by one of the best summaries ever, from Karen: “Great weekend until the thunderstorm arrived during the awards. You could say I threw the Judge’s gifts at them as the archers all screamed and scattered ”
Those storms were something else, congrats to all who competed and supported this shoot, and thanks to Norton Archers for hosting

A historic weekend for DNAA as we submitted County teams for the first time in years – Barebow and Recurve (both days) and Longbow (Sunday only). Our County Longbow team won the trophy on Sunday, our first county team win since 2006!!
Whitburn Archers were the winning Club Recurve Team both days! (Abby Thornton, Shaun Gallagher, Eleanor Thornton, Jared Thornton) Jared was also 1st place Gents Recurve both days, and Eleanor 1st place Junior Ladies Recurve both days. Abby was 3rd place Lady Recurve on Saturday.
For Longbow Ladies, Diane Jobson was 3rd and Helen Horsley (Riverside) 2nd on metric Saturday. On imperial Sunday, Helen was 2nd place and Diane 1st. Both ladies were in the winning County Longbow team with Trev Cameron-Brown (Green Lane Archers) Diane also broke two county imperial records and achieved her Gold tassel award. Rob Say (Tynedale Archers) picked up his first imperial tassel (black) and then promptly signed up for Nationals 🏹
