If any archer, past or present, still has DNAA County trophies that were awarded before 2022 can you please make arrangements to return them asap? Trophies were not awarded at the only two target shoots last year because most of the trophies were not returned ☹️
It’s understood that not everyone returned to archery after the pandemic but we really need to get these trophies back. Tournament Organisers have tried to get them back in but now we need your help please.
Trophies can be returned to club secretaries, at county meetings, to the TOs or drop the County Secretary a message to arrange return.
Thanks everyone for your help and cooperation. 🏆🏆🏆
Here’s an eagerly-awaited update on the Castle Leagues!!

7.30pm Park View school, Lombard Drive.
The County Coach Officer would like to send his congratulations to the county’s new Session Coaches. Over the weekend 7th-8th January four DNAA coach candidates were joined by five other candidates from around the country for assessment of their coach training course.
The candidates were put through their paces to demonstrate their coaching skills to the assessment team which the all did to a very high standard.
Thanks go to East Durham Archers for providing the venue and to Danny Cameron and his team for coming to assess the course.

This was already on my radar, however following a recent email from our RDO signposting club secretaries to AGB’s policy on First Aid I’m prompted to ask the question.
I hope to organise one or more first aid courses for anyone in the county who needs one, this will include coaches and judges. This will be a Level3 Emergency First Aid course which should last 5-6 hours. In order for me to pursue the planning of this I will need to have an idea of how many may be interested. Depending on the take-up, the cost of the course is likely to be under £40.00 and will be held somewhere in the Chester-le-Street – Birtley area on a Saturday in March. However should I find a large demand other venues maybe considered. If you could advise as soon as you can please, then I can advance the planning.
Kindest regards
Ian Norwood

Ian Norwood CCO
Hello, my name is Ian Norwood and for those that don’t know, I am the County Coach Officer for DNAA.
I became an archer in 2005 after trying to shoot three balloons for £1.00 (might have been more…it was a long time ago) at a small archery centre near North Berwick when I was there on holiday with my wife Ann.
Prior to archery I used to be a church bell ringer and Ann used to be a traditional china painter…now I don’t ring church bells and Ann doesn’t paint china as archery has consumed our lives.
I was aware that our coach wasn’t getting any younger and wanting to give something back to the sport, I trained to become a coach Level 1 in 2009. I then went on to become a coach Level 2 in 2011.
I have tried my hand at almost anything relating to archery, I have shot recurve both freestyle and barebow, Compound, English longbow and all manner of traditional bows in target archery, field archery (both WA and NFAS), clout and our latest passion, flight.
I took on the role of County Coach Officer in 2017 a role which keeps me very busy. My main objective as CCO is to support and develop coach training in the county and provide opportunities for the development for our junior and senior archers.
I know that Covid has been a major blow to the archery community, and in particular, our coaches have struggled to stay motivated during lockdown. Now that archery has returned close to where it was prior to covid, I hope that clubs recognise the need to have good coaches and give them the means to give back to the sport as I did when I started my coaching career.
