Introducing our County Records Officer

Hi, my name is Andrea Wilson and I have been an archer with Killingworth Archers for the last 28 years. I mainly shoot Compound; but I also shoot Recurve and Longbow where I have fortunately been able to shoot for the county with all bowstyles over the years. I have competed in target & clout! Unfortunately, due to injury I have not managed to shoot in any open tournaments for a while and now take on more of an administrative role, but my aim is to get back on the shooting line with you all!

I have been your county records officer since 2008 where I have managed to compile the Roll of Honours for DNAA from 1950 to present date and continued to update the county records on the DNAA website and to send out certificates to those who manage to shoot a new record.

Whilst checking the county records I also request records for our DNAA Juniors who have broken records at records status tournaments which are then updated on the NCAS website. So please remember to send any results sheets from the tournaments you shoot outside of the county to me so they can be checked for County & Regional records.

Hopefully I will see you all on the shooting line soon!

Junior Coaching Day – Sunday 15 January 2023

The County Coach Officer advises that following unprecedented demand the coaching day on 15th January for junior archers is now full. Any further enquiries will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified of a place should anyone say they are unable to attend.

Good morning everyone

We would like to extend an invitation to your juniors to come to a training day at Durham City Archers, Framwellgate School Durham on January 15th . Following the take up at the last day, we will need to limit the numbers so booking will be on a ‘first come’ basis. The session is free of charge and will be a follow on from the previous session concentrating on developing good technique and posture.

The day will start prompt at 10:00 so we ask that you arrive early to get settled in and set up by 9:45.

If you wish to book in please let me know as soon as possible please.

Kindest regards

Ian Norwood

County Coach Officer

Introducing our County Secretary (and Judges Single Point of Contact)

Hello, my name is Sharon Tideswell and I have been an archer for about 14 years. During that time I have volunteered in a number of roles to include being a former Club Secretary, Tournament Organiser, a Judge, County Secretary, SPoC (Single point of contact for the Counties Judges) and latterly as Judge Liaison Officer at Regional level which also incorporates being a member of the Judges Working Group within Archery GB.

I was once a very competitive archer and still occasionally shoot though not as often as I should. I started out as a recurve archer and following a car accident, I thought I would never shoot again, until I found a wrist release I could operate and bought my first compound bow.

I now spend more time judging than shooting at different events. As well as Target, I like to judge Clout and Flight archery. My passion is Flight and I think that every archer no matter where they are in their archery journey should try a Flight shoot at least once in their lifetime.

I get a real buzz helping others to be able to compete in archery and develop their skills.

As SPoC I am available to all Tournament Organisers to assist in finding DNAA Judges for events if required and have regular contact with the SPoCs from surrounding counties if the DNAA Judges are unavailable to officiate. I assist with mentoring and training of our Judges to ensure that competitions can run and are enjoyable for all competitors, whilst maintaining the rules of shooting. If you are interested in judging just speak to me and I can answer any questions you may have.

I was part of a small team who introduced the Lambton Worm awards which are available to all DNAA archers. The aim of the award is to reward achievements of an archer’s progress at competition, until they are eligible for the Rose or FITA Star awards at a record status competition. Please visit the DNAA website for more information on the awards.

If you see me out and about, (I am usually dressed in a green polo shirt with the word Judge on the back) please do come and introduce yourself, have a chat or ask me questions as I am always happy to help.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Sharon

Introducing Our New Chairperson

Hello, my name is Tracey Leverett and I have been an archer with Riverside Archery Club  since October 2017. I mainly shoot barebow and longbow, but also occasionally dabble with other bowstyles. I participate in target, clout and flight archery and my collection of bows is growing! Last year I qualified as a Session Coach and it has been a real pleasure helping others to get into archery and develop their skill.

I have a keen interest in bringing people together and building good relationships across the county. Through competitions I have really enjoyed meeting archers from other clubs and building great friendships. I hope to continue in that vein within my role as Chair, and I am always happy to chat and listen to your thoughts and ideas. If you see me about, do come and say hello.

Regarding county committee meetings, did you know?
– every club can send 2 representatives who can vote on proposals
– members are welcome to attend as observers and take part in discussions
– the minutes are sent out to your club secretary. If you want to know what is going on in the county, just ask to see them.

I look forward to seeing what we can do together to help our county to grow.
Tracey Leverett, DNAA Chairperson

Junior Coaching Day

The County Coach Officer, Ian Norwood, would like to extend his thanks to the coaches and archers that turned out on Sunday 20th to make the junior coaching day a great success. The whole team would like to make a special shout out to Coach Jenny, who has become a member of the coaching team having once been one of the junior athletes. We would also like to thank Coach Thomas who made the journey all the way from Thirsk Bowmen to help out and see what it is we do.

The archers worked extremely hard belying the fact that most of them have been in the sport less than eighteen months.

“Going forward, what is very encouraging for the county is seeing archers from so many ‘new’ clubs, some travelling as far afield as Berwick to be there.”

His thanks also go to Durham City Archers and their team for making everyone so welcome and for the use of their venue.
