Earlier this year the DNAA Committee advised that the decision had been made to not send a team to the NCAS Inter Counties Event.  We are pleased to announce that following the lifting of lockdown the decision has been reversed.

For this year only we have had to change the selection criteria and scores for both the Juniors and Seniors.  Juniors – your selection scores in for the Inter-Counties to be held in York, at the Hopgrove Sports Fields in York, the home of York Archers on 2 October and Seniors for 3 October.  The Junior shoot will be age appropriate Bristol rounds and Seniors will be a York/Hereford round.

Scores from any 12 dozen round will be accepted for the 2021 outdoor season (a double WA720 will not be accepted).   Please note that we will only accept submissions for age/gender appropriate rounds.  Please ensure that your submission(s) are accompanied by a link to the results for each score submitted.  If the results are not attached then the submission will not be accepted.  If the event has not published their results, please ask the TO to do so as quickly as possible so the scores can be utilised.

The format of the senior team has changed and will consist of 16 archers in total made up of 2 longbow , 2 barebow, 2 recurve and 2 compound, both ladies and gents.

The closing date for submission for both Junior and Senior will be midnight on 3 September 2021 to enable the scores to be ratified and the team selected.

The selection team will meet as soon as possible thereafter and the “team” will be notified by e-mail.  DNAA will be unable to provide shirts for any new members of the team as there are problems with the supplier –  please accept our apologies.

Travel expenses will be paid utilising google maps and the shortest route from your home address.  No re-imbursement will be made for overnight accommodation for this event.

The membership information provided should reflect the information held by Sport 80 and by the DNAA Membership Secretary.  Any discrepancies will not be notified to the archer/parent/guardian and will result in the scores submitted being null and void.  If you do not have an AGB Membership valid at the date of the event please ask your club secretary to contact secretary.dnaa@gmail.com PRIOR to the closing date.  Scores should only be submitted if you are able to attend the event and are in agreement with the content above.

The executive committee recently met to discuss a few matters now that lockdown restrictions are lifting.
We are conscious of the fact that we have not had an AGM since May 2019 and the accounts have not been audited for 2019/20 and 2020/21. It is proposed that as the roadmap will allow meetings indoors that we ask the auditors from the 2019 AGM to audit the accounts for the past two financial years to present at the next AGM to be held as and when lockdown restrictions allow. Proposed for some time in August/September 2021.
Due to the focus being on clubs getting their membership to return and the lack of volunteers and rules and regulations being put in place, it was decided that the County Championships for 2021 will not go ahead. The first DNAA Shoot for 2021/22 will be the Indoor Championships in March 2022.
The Executive were advised that the National Mid Summer Tournament for 2021 would not take place this year and is being moved to September each year going forward. Whilst discussing the County Teams, discussions moved to the NCAS Inter Counties Event on 2 and 3 October 2021. It was decided that as clubs were focusing on returning members and most members were concentrating on returning to archery that it would be unfair if we submitted a team to the event as a lot of our members would not be competition fit and the selection criteria could not be followed as detailed in the DNAA Constitution.
The decisions were not taken lightly and we hope to be able to be able to provide you with more positive news in the future.

It is with great sadness we inform you that Edna McGowan passed away on Thursday 15 April at the age of 85 after a short illness.
Edna was DNAA President for a number of years, a position she was honoured to hold.
A member of Killingworth Archers since shortly after the club was formed in 1975, she was our President and always at the heart of the club, alongside her late husband George, a founder member of the club.
Edna was an Instructor, Coach then County Coach for many years and introduced so many people to our sport.
She competed in tournaments all over the country and represented DNAA on many occasions. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Our thoughts are with Edna’s family at this sad time.

The county is extremely sad to announce that Fred Hedley has passed away after a long illness.

Fred was a senior coach and coached many of the county’s archers and helped other coaches, over many years. 

He was a member of Killingworth archers and coached all over the country.

He was a member of Tyne and Wear Metropolitan Fire Brigade, having started in Newcastle and Gateshead Fire service rescue and rose to Divisional Officer. He often used the experience he gained to help in archery.

He was a keen exponent of tug of war, and in his younger years often travelled to the Isle of Man to watch the TT.

Fred was always keen to chat to folk and was a friend to many, his tales were legendary.

Fred was greatly loved by everyone and he will be sadly missed. 

Fred leaves his wife Silvia and stepson Anthony. Our deepest sympathies to them at this sad time.
