Flight Workshop by Riverside – update

The Flight Workshop at Riverside on Sunday 27th March, previously notified here,  was a great success.  Attended by more than 30 Archers & coaches,  the feedback was tremendous with many Archers & coaches saying they were happy to be taking what they had learned back to their clubs.
Since then there have also been comments that others would like to have attended if they could – one of the problems being that it was Mother’s  Day, so they didn’t  dare!!  –  Quite right !
This has prompted us to consider running a second & similar workshop in the future,  if the demand is there. Additionally there is the possibility of perhaps having a follow-up for those who are interested in looking  further into the subject to learn more before competing.
In order to make a decision on these suggestions it would be appreciated if anyone who is interested in participating, if the events are organised, please contact us at:-
RIVERSIDEARCHERYCLUB@GMAIL.COM
We can then make our decision.

Training Opportunities – How to Become a Judge

Webinar opportunity (5th April) – book via Sport80

The sport needs Judges to ensure that competitions are run safely and fairly. Like all other sports, a team of officials is required to make sure the result at the end of the day is correct and to help the competitors have a good day out! Judging is another way of participating and can be fitted around other commitments, such as shooting and coaching.

Any member of Archery GB aged 16 or over can train to become a Judge and there is a special scheme for “Youth” Judges (those aged 16-30).

Come along to this event to find out more information on how to become a judge.

Until then, for anyone interested, there’s more information in the Guide to Becoming a Judge and additional information in Useful Resources for Judges Regional Judge Liaison Officers (JLOs) are based across the country and are available to help anyone interested in Judging and to answer any questions you may have.  Please sign up through the members’ portal.

Junior Coaching Day March 27th

Due to the little response we have had for the junior coaching day on March 27th, we are having a rethink. Instead of this session, we have decided to organise a fun day during the summer that all juniors will be invited to, we’ll use this opportunity to kickstart the junior coaching program in the autumn. The coaches are currently looking at suitable dates and venues, we’ll publish details as soon as we can.

Flight Archery Workshop

To be held at Riverside Archery Club on Sunday 27th March 2022.  Start time 10.30am

Flight is one of the many disciplines of archery not frequently shot in this country, so subsequently there is little knowledge about it out in the archery community.  Archers are invited to come along to Riverside and learn about the different aspects of Flight and have a go at the shooting technique, using supplied flu-flu arrows. (for safety, no other arrows will be allowed on the range during this workshop)

A Flight competition is a very relaxing,  unpressured and really enjoyable day out,  particularly so if a few archers from the same club compete,  and these days don’t we all want fun events to look forward to?

Intended for those who have never tried it before, or just want to know more about the ins & outs of this different form of shooting,  we are also encouraging coaches to come along who are unable to gain the knowledge about flight through the normal coaching channels – to add another ‘string to their bows’

The day will cover information about the Range,  Equipment, Scoring, Rules (yes there are some!), Safety and how to shoot your bow to try to achieve distances that you’ve never shot before, which after all is what it’s all about. After the restrictions of target and even clout shooting, flight can be positively ‘liberating’

Whilst there is no attendance fee a small voluntary donation, at the end of the day would be appreciated to cover the rent of the field.  Serve-yourself drinks will be available for most of the day.

If you would like to come along and join us, please email us,  as soon as possible, at:- RIVERSIDEARCHERYCLUB@GMAIL.COM. We will endeavour to acknowledge every registration,  so if you haven’t heard from us within a couple of days,  send another email.
